3 steps To get your day started

Morning routine to get your day going

Waking up, you start to move.

How do you feel?

What are your first thoughts?

They are setting up your day.

If you are like many, this is a challenging time.

Groggy, stiff, sore, pain.

There is another way to go.

Now, you can’t decide how you wake up or what it feels like, or what you first think.

All of those appear together. Unbidden.

As most feelings and thoughts do.

So, it is not what is happening that matters as much as how you relate and respond.

You have no control over what happens, but how you respond is a skill set.

This is what creates a better way forward.

Not by practicing just once.

By practicing over and over the best way you can.

Your intent is to make your life better.

To feel better.

3 steps To get your day going

On waking,

  1. Bring your attention to your breathing. Follow your breath in and out. Notice the first moment you breathe in, and the first moment you breathe out. In, out. This can be for a few breaths or longer depending on how much time you want to dedicate. Breathing quickly changes your biology, state and how you feel. When your mind wanders, bring your attention back to the sensations of breathing.
  2. Simple movements. Start with easier areas of your body, small movements. Make it easy. No force. Wiggle your toes, pump your ankles, open and close your fingers, roll your shoulders. Ease into it. Get blood and oxygen moving. Nourish your body and body systems with movement.
  3. Set your intention for the day. Remind yourself of your picture of success — what are you working towards today? What will be your style?

This is a habit.

To feel better.

To set up your day.

In a simple way.

Many of the 1:1 Pain Coaching clients I work with find these three steps help them get going in a positive way.

One key tip: set a prompt or notification as a reminder.

See you tomorrow.
