…on your journey to understand, ease and overcome your chronic pain
There are many ways your partner can help. Here are some ideas.
Ultimately, you decide what kind of help you need. They may also have some suggestions to share with you.
This is why communication matters.
Communication is about understanding each other.
This can be challenging in itself.
There are ways to communicate with compassion and presence
More on this later and I will be going into more depth in the coming blogs.
In no particular order:
- Listen to you ~ sometimes you may just want to be heard
- Offer specific help when you ask for it
- Learn about your pain with you ~ they look at the resources you are using to understand your pain
- Give you space when you need it
- Hold your hand ~ studies show this can bring pain relief
- Talk to others on your behalf when necessary
- Encourage you and highlight the efforts you are making
- See the possibilities in and with you
- Use soothing touch ~ working out between you what works best: e.g./ type of touch, firmness
- Help you make your plan for the day ~ sharing suggestions
What ways does your partner help you?
What do you find useful?
Please do share.
